Marcellus Issues in West Virginia: An Introduction

Hydraulic Fracturing, a specific well in Upshur county

This is a collection of Material Safety Data Sheets for the fracturing of a Chesapeake Appalachia well in Upshur county (47-097-03686) in March 2011. The FracFocus disclosure sheet is here. The completion report filed with the Office of Oil and Gas is here.

Products were provided by two companies, Calfrac and BJ Services, so it is hard to tell which firm actually conducted the fracturing for Chesapeake. The FracFocus disclosure shows that about 16% of the water used for fracturing was recycled.

Hydrochloric acid, 15% (this is the BJ Services rather than Calfrac product)

Iron control agent

Corrosion inhibitor (this is Baker Hughes CI-14 which is similar but not the same as Calfrac's DAP-932)

Scale inhibitor

Friction reducer

Gel

Breaker (this is Baker Hughes GBW-5 containing ammonium persulphate as a breaker similar to Calfrac's DWP-901)
